Theater long has been recognized as the most collaborative art form.
Dutch theater makers take that collaboration to a new level, says Walter Bart, an actor and theater maker with Wunderbaum, a Rotterdam- based group that creates drama using location-based themes and an exploration of sub-cultures in society.
"Actors have been (creating theater) in collectives since the '70s and '80s," Bart says. "They direct themselves, and everybody is responsible for creating the whole show. We write (the script) ourselves.We direct ourselves."
What's produced, Bart says, is a theater piece that's a total art work.
