With a proposal for a one-time, big raise of almost $10,000 next year, four of Madison County's elected officials are trying to reclaim their positions near the top of the pay scale.
The auditor, circuit clerk, recorder of deeds and coroner won support Tuesday from the County Board's finance and personnel committees for raises that would stop a slide toward the lower end of the scale for department heads and others. The proposal would bring the salaries to $62,000 next year from $52,416 now and provide yearly increments that would take them to $69,742 by the year 2000.
