Site: Los Angeles. Schedule: Today-Sunday. Course: Riviera Country Club (6,946 yards, par 71). Purse: $1.4 million. Winner's Share: $252,000. Television: USA (Today-Friday, 3-5 p.m.) and KMOV, Channel 4 (Saturday, 2-5 p.m.; Sunday, 3-5 p.m.). Last year: Craig Stadler closed with a 3-under 68 for a 1-stroke victory over Fred Couples, Scott Simpson, Mark Brooks and Mark Wiebe. Stadler, a former USC star, had a 6-under 278 total. Last week: Jeff Sluman won the Tucson Chrysler Classic for his second tour title, finishing with a 5-under 67 for a 1-stroke victory over Steve Jones. Sluman, the 1988 PGA champion, had a 13-under 275 total. Notes: Tiger Woods, seeking his fourth victory in 12 pro starts on the PGA Tour, made his first tour appearance in the 1992 tournament. Woods, then 16, missed the cut with rounds of 72 and 75. His father, Earl Woods, had heart bypass surgery last week at UCLA Medical Center. LPGA TOUR Alpine Ladies Masters Site: Gold Coast, Australia. Schedule: Today-Sunday. Course: Royal Pines Golf Club (6,250 yards, par 72). Purse: $650,000. Winner's Share: $97,500. Television: The Golf Channel (Friday-Saturday, 7 p.m.-midnight). Last year: Australia's Jane Crafter eagled the final hole for a 1-stroke victory over two-time winners Laura Davies and Jane Geddes. Crafter, also the 1992 winner, shot a 5-under 68 for a 19-under 273 total. Last week: Sweden's Annika Sorenstam won the Hawaiian Open, closing with a 1-over 73 for a 1-stroke victory over Meg Mallon. …
