Judge Rules Cole Can Keep Public Defender

HUNTSVILLE -- A judge ruled today that former Mamtek CEO Bruce Cole is eligible for a public defender as he declined Cole's attorney's request to be removed from the case.

During a hearing last month, Cole attorney Raymond Legg argued Cole has too much money to qualify for a public defender, and taxpayers should not pay for Cole's criminal defense. Legg cited Cole's Social Security benefits and money loaned to his wife and held in bankruptcy escrow.
