A LITTLE over a decade ago they were strictly amateurs, playing on the local park pitches of Preston, but yesterday only a disputed penalty decision robbed Unibond League part-timers Bamber Bridge of taking their Second Division opponents to a deserved replay.
Martin Butler's contentious 72nd-minute spot-kick proved the difference between the two sides and Tony Greenwood, Bridge's manager, was naturally aggrieved.
"I thought we were cheated out of the game and I am gutted to lose to a dubious penalty," he said. "We were outstanding throughout the match and I couldn't have asked for any more."
