Christensen Uses Firm to Aid Human Resource Development

Though thedegrees she has earned sound impressive, Dr. Margaret Christensen is more concerned with what her educational background can do for her almost two-year-old company, Human Resource Consultants Inc. of Edmond, than the impression she makes upon the public with her titles.

After 15 years as a registered nurse, Christensen received her doctorate in education from Oklahoma State University in May 1986, specializing in human resource development in the area of occupational and adult education.

Early in 1985, Christensen and a fellow classmate, John Thomason, decided to start a business of their own involving something which Christensen had already had much experience - providing businesses, especially those in the healthcare field, with assistance in organizational development.

So, with a capital investment of $10,000, Human Resource Consultants was born.

"Most of my nursing background was in management and staff development," said Christensen.

She began with management of nurses and eventually expanded into managerial training and counseling programs and an employee appraisal system, for the higher ranking individuals in a healthcare organization on down.

Christensen even did management training sessions for real estate companies. Through the contacts she made during her professional career and during her doctoral work, it was possible for Christensen and Thomason to start the firm. …
