Officials Tour OKC Food Lion Store

The Food Lion grocery store chain recently invited members of Congress in all 14 states where it operates to tour its stores. Rep. Ernest Istook, R-Okla., accepted the offer Thursday, touring a Food Lion in his district in northwest Oklahoma City. He was joined by Oklahoma City Councilman I.G. Purser and state Rep. OU Students Seek Limit to Tuition Hike

The University of Oklahoma's student government probably will ask that any tuition increase be limited to about half that proposed by state regents, the student president says. "I can guarantee you that (student) congress will not endorse the 10 percent tuition increase," said Jay Parmley, president of the University of Oklahoma Student Association. State regents will hold a public hearing next month on a proposal to raise tuition by an average of 10 percent next year, with another 10 percent increase the next year and varying increases for the following five years. Regents cited state budget problems and what they said were Oklahoma's disparately low tuition costs compared to similar institutions in other states. The increase would bring lower division courses at the University of Oklahoma to $49.50 per credit hour in the fall. Parmley said the school's student congress may endorse just a 5 percent to 6 percent increase. Wilson Named Metro Tech Superintendent
