Deaconess Cancer Center Earns Accreditation

Deaconess Cancer Center has received a three-year accreditation from the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. It is one of only 1,300 cancer programs in the nation to receive this accreditation.

In order to receive accreditation, cancer programs must have specific resources for state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of cancer, a multidisciplinary cancer committee that promotes consultation among physicians for improved patient care and be approved by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. . . Dr. Richard Reinking has been elected president of the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians. The announcement was made at the organization's 45th Annual Scientific Assembly at Shangri-La resort. Reinking is chairman of the board of directors of the Springer Clinic in Tulsa.

Others elected include Dr. Steve Crawford, Yukon, president-elect; Dr. Pat Bell, Tishomingo, vice president; and Dr. Brent Laughlin, Tulsa, secretary-treasurer. Dr. Ray McIntyre, Kingfisher, was named Family Doctor of the Year. . . Sam Armstrong-Lopez has been hired as a public relations associate by Baptist Medical Center. Armstrong-Lopez has worked in broadcast news at several major news organizations in the Oklahoma City and Dallas areas. He has also served as press secretary to former Oklahoma Gov. Henry Bellmon, as well as public information officer for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. . . Dr. Janet L. Fanning and Dr. Kyle W. Fanning have been approved as Oklahoma City Clinic stockholders. Both are board certified family physicians and joined the clinic in 1991. As stockholders, physicians are eligible to be nominated to the board of directors and are able to vote during board elections. . . Cindy Cummins of Norman has been hired as a full-time occupational therapist at Baptist Medical Center effective July 26. Cummins is scheduled to complete her field training this week at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center, 700 NW 6th St.

The field training, an internship program, is the final requirement for her completion of a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Cummins completed course work on her degree in December. She began her field training at St. Anthony Hospital in January and the last section of it at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in April. …
