AKRON, Ohio -- A Fox Chapel woman abducted at knifepoint from The Waterworks mall and raped repeatedly in front of her baby before being abandoned with the child on a snowy Cleveland street asked Tuesday that a judge show no mercy to her tormentor.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge Thomas Teodosio agreed, declaring Jimmy Lee Tayse a violent sexual predator and sentenced him to 73 years to life in prison for the Easter weekend crime spree that began in Pittsburgh and ended in Ohio.
Tayse, 31, a native of Johnstown, who most recently lived in West Virginia, was convicted last month on numerous counts of rape, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, grand theft and failure to comply with police.
Prior to sentencing, the woman and her husband asked for the maximum penalty to prevent Tayse from committing future crimes.
The woman said Tayse has forever altered her family's life and that she still suffers from panic attacks and nightmares. She asked the judge to "show no mercy" to Tayse.
Her husband agreed, saying:
"A person who would rape a mother in front of her child for his own gratification, take a baby as a hostage, put a knife to a baby's throat, does not deserve to live in the same society as we do. …
