OmniMark Technologies Corporation announced that Mosby, Inc., a leading provider of print, multimedia, and online information relating to the health sciences, has officially launched its new OmniMarkpowered electronic publishing system for delivering customized information to clients via CD-ROM and the World Wide Web.
The most visible component of the system is a completely new Periodicals Online section of Mosby's corporate Web site (http://www.mosby.com/periodicals). Twelve of Mosby's medical, dental, nursing care, and veterinary journals are now available in full text. OmniMark-powered access control features ensure that abstracts, tables of contents, and searches are free to all users.
In addition to its online presence, Mosby will produce CD-ROM titles and market the system's underlying text files, which use the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) to ensure that content remains "media-neutral."
Mosby team members agreed that OmniMark provided a total solution. "It really was a tall order to start with," said Cheryl Gelfand-Grant, executive producer of electronic publishing at Mosby's St. Louis office, where the project originated. "Our processes were extremely disjointed and there was a lot of duplication. Our CDs were going off one way, our HTML went another, and so did our print publishing. They were all totally separate processes. It was costing a lot of money and we weren't able to process things as quickly as we would have liked. …
