State religious schools in Israel are supposed to be faithful to the general-secular values of the state, on the one hand, and to promote a religious way of life, on the other.1 One might say, therefore, that this requirement of dual loyalty reflects, on a smaller scale, the existing conflict of religion vs. state in Israel.
