On World Health Day 1995, women in Fiji established a grass-roots women's organisation called the Women's Association for Natural Medicinal Therapy (WAINIMATE). WAINIMATE, the Fijian word for medicine, was launched in an effort to promote the use of safe and effective traditional medicines, as well as to encourage the conservation of medicinal plants.
