This is not a book to read in one sitting. Nor is it easy bedtime reading. Sex, violence and pornography, when treated in parallel as Susan Cole does in this collection of her writings from the last 20 or so years, are best approached with a clear mind, a strong stomach...and plenty of daylight during which to process the complex and often disturbing truths raised in the writings.

Power Surge gathers together Cole's writings, many of which originally appeared in the Toronto-based feminist broadsheet Broadside, and some of which have their origins in her Herizons column, Cole's Notes. Power Surge could be described as a survey of the movement against pornography and sexual violence. Cole, as a long-time anti-violence activist and writer, has made significant contributions to the debates the movement has had over the years.
