Ă…LESUND

ôˈləsoon, city (1995 pop. 36,720), Møre og Romsdal county, W Norway, on 3 islands in the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Storfjord. It is a major commercial and fishing port. Products include clothing, processed fish, and dairy goods. Of note is a nearby stone church (early 13th cent.). The name was formerly spelled Aalesund.
