BOMA

bōˈmə, city (1984 pop. 197,617), Bas-Congo province, W Congo (Kinshasa), on the Congo River estuary. A port and railhead, it exports tropical timber, bananas, cacao, and palm products. Boma was the capital of the Congo Free State (after 1908 the Belgian Congo) from 1887 to 1926, when it was changed to Leopoldville (now Kinshasa).
