CHARPENTIER, GUSTAVE

güstävˈ shärpäNtyāˈ, 1860–1956, French composer; pupil of Massenet. His best-known works are the opera Louise (1900), portraying bohemian Parisian life, and his orchestral suite Impressions d'Italie (1892).
