GADE, NIELS VILHELM

nēls vĭlˈhĕlm gäˈthə, 1817–90, Danish composer. He studied (1843–48) in Leipzig, where he met Mendelssohn and Schumann. His eight symphonies, his chamber music, and his cantatas are essentially romantic.
