MAKIYIVKA

məkēˈəfkə, Rus. Makeyevka, city (1989 pop. 430,000), SE Ukraine, in the Donets Basin. It is a leading metallurgical and coal-mining center and has machinery and coking plants. Makiyivka was founded in 1899 as a metallurgical settlement called Dmitriyevsk.
