MARATTI, CARLO
| kärˈlō märätˈtē, –tä, 1625–1713, Italian high baroque painter and engraver of the Roman school. He restored Raphael's frescoes in the Vatican and was appointed curator of the Vatican paintings. Maratti created a number of allegorical pictures in which he attempted to reconcile the baroque and classical trends.
