nämēb, formerly Mossamedesmōsäˈmədĕs, town (1987 est. pop. 77,000), SW Angola, a port on the Atlantic Ocean. Iron ore is the leading export; sisal, cotton, tobacco, frozen meat, hides, and skins are also significant.
