RHEINFELDEN

rīnˈfĕldən, town, Aargau canton, N Switzerland, on the Rhine River, opposite the German town of the same name. Although it has one of the largest hydroelectric plants in Europe, Rheinfelden is chiefly noted as a tourist center with saline baths. It was the scene of almost continuous fighting in the Thirty Years War. There, in 1638, Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar defeated the imperial troops and Henri de Rohan was killed.
