ROUBAIX

roobāˈ, city (1990 pop. 98,179), Nord dept., N France, in French Flanders. Part of the Lille urban area, Roubaix, with adjacent Tourcoing, is one of the largest textile (chiefly wool) centers in France; a national textile school is there. It was occupied by the Germans during World Wars I and II.
