SCHWARZKOPF, H. NORMAN

1934–, U.S. army general, b. Trenton, N.J. He graduated from West Point (1956) and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, where he was twice wounded and decorated with three Silver Stars, three Bronze Stars, and the Distinguished Service Medal. In 1983, he was deputy commander of the U.S. invasion of Grenada. In 1991, Schwartzkopf commanded the successful allied invasion of Iraq in the Persian Gulf War. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1992 as a four-star general.
