First Meeting

The first meeting of the Society was held at 4:00pm on Thursday 30th September 2010 at the Central Statistics Office, Skehard Road, Cork. The President, Mr Paul Sweeney, was in the Chair.

Professor Tim Callan delivered a paper co-authored with Ms Claire Keane, Mr John R. Walsh and Ms Marguerita Lane. The paper was titled From Data to Policy Analysis: Tax-Benefit Modelling using SILC 2008. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Tom McMahon (CSO) and seconded by Mr Jim Walsh (Social Inclusion Division, Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs). Contributions from the floor were made by Mr Kieran Walsh, Mr Pat McArdle, Dr Sean Lyons, Mr Padraig Dalton and Mr Bill Keating. The President invited the presenter to respond and then brought the meeting to a close, thanking the authors and the contributors.

Second Meeting

The second meeting of the Society was held at 6:00pm on Thursday 2nd November 2010 at the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin. The President, Mr Paul Sweeney, was in the Chair.

Dr John McCartney (CSO) delivered his paper Predicting Turning Points in the Rent Cycle Using the Natural Vacancy Rate--An Applied Study of the Dublin Office Market. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Brendan Williams (UCD) and seconded by Dr Clare Eriksson (Jones Lang LaSalle). Contributions from the floor were made by Mr Brian McCormick, Dr Keith Walsh, Mr Karl Deeter, Dr Duncan Cleary, Mr Ivor O'Shea and Mr Noel O'Gorman. The President invited the presenter to respond and then brought the meeting to a close, thanking the author and the contributors.

Third Meeting

The third meeting of the Society was held at 6:00pm on Thursday 9th December 2010 at the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin. The President, Mr Paul Sweeney, was in the Chair.

Dr Keith Walsh (Office of the Revenue Commissioners) delivered his paper The Economic and Fiscal Contribution of US Investment in Ireland. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Jim Stewart (TCD) and seconded by Dr Jonathan Healy (Forfas). Contributions from the floor were made by Dr Donal de Buitleir, Dr Christopher Sibley, Mr John Burke, Prof. Frank Barry, Mr Brian Cotter, Prof. Paul Gorecki, Mr Eamon O'Dea and Ms Breda O'Sullivan. The President invited the presenter to respond and then brought the meeting to a close, thanking the author and the contributors.

Fourth Meeting

The fourth meeting of the Society was held at 6:00pm on Thursday 3rd March 2011 at the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin. The President, Mr Paul Sweeney, was in the Chair.

Mr Steve MacFeely (CSO) delivered his paper A Study of the NUTS 2 Administrative Regions using Input-Output Analysis, which was co-authored by Dr Richard Moloney and Mr Martin Kenneally (UCC). The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Eamon Henry (formerly at ESRI and CSO) and seconded by Mr Kieran Moylan (BMW Regional Assembly). Contributions from the floor were made by Prof. Frances Ruane, Mr Bill Keating and Dr Patrick Quill. The President invited the presenter to respond and then brought the meeting to a close, thanking the author and the contributors. …
