The Forty-Third Annual Dickens Society Meeting: University of Kent, Canterbury, England

The Forty-third Annual Dickens Society Business meeting was called to order by Secretary/Treasurer Robert Heaman on Friday 13 September 2012 at the University of Kent, Canterbury at 10.50 am.

The following were presented for Society offices, replacing those whose terms expire at the end of 2012:

President: Goldie Morgentaler (University of Lethbridge)

Vice-President: Ruth Richardson

Secretary/Treasurer: Diana Archibald (University of Massachusetts Lowell)

The following were nominated to serve three-year terms as trustees:

Lauren M. E. Goodlad (University of Illinois)

Jonathan Grossman (UCLA)

Dominic Rainsford (Aarhus University)

Daniel Tyler (Oxford University).

Upon a motion by Joel J. Brattin and a second by Kit Polga, the candidates were approved unanimously. The trustees will replace James Buzard (MIT), Karen Chase (University ofVirginia), Jenny Hartley (Roehampton University), and Francesco Marroni (Gabriele d'Annunzio University).

David Paroissien updated the Society on the progress of the Dickens Journals Online Project and a request from John Drew for financial support from the Dickens Society to transfer electronic content to printed form. Upon a motion by Duane DeVries and a second by Natalie McKnight the members unanimously approved the allocation of 1,000 [pounds sterling] GBP to the Dickens Journals Online Project for the necessary software.

Joel J. Brattin reported on the success of the Dickens Society Symposium at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, Massachusetts 13-15 July 2012, hosted by Diana Archibald and Joel J. Brattin. The Symposium featured an exhibition on "Dickens and Massachusetts: A Tale of Power and Transformation," which included materials from eight major collections; a Dickens walking tour of Lowell; Victorian picnic and lawn games; and three days of presentations by Dickensians from around the world.

The Eighteenth Annual Dickens Symposium will be held at the University of Toronto, 4-8 July 2013, hosted by Leon Litvack. …
