Dr Russell Barkley is a psychologist who has spent his life researching, writing, and teaching in the area of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He is an acknowledged expert in the field and has published widely. This is the third edition of his authoritative textbook (the first edition was published in 1981 and the second, in 1998).

The text has been substantially updated in terms of phenomenology, neuroimaging, clinical interventions, and genetics. Several other authors collaborated with Dr Barklay on this textbook. For example, although Dr Barkley lectures widely on the use of medications, he has chosen to have the chapters on stimulant and other medications written by medical practitioners.

The chapters are well referenced and represent state-of-the-art knowledge as of 2006.

This book covers the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD across the lifespan, with specific chapters on adolescents and adults. …
