Born in 1905 at the center of the crumbling Austro-Hungarian Empire, Viktor Frankl became a witness to the remarkable political, philosophical, and scientific upheavals of the twentieth century. In his stirring recollections and reflections, Dr. Frankl for the first time describes his childhood and youth, his experiences as a young doctor of neurology in prewar Vienna, and his early debates with Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler.
