Readers Outraged by Behavior Of Republican Senate Leaders
Thank you for the article "Hatch and Frist Fire Whistle-blower" [April 13-26] by John M. Powers. I have long believed that the biggest obstacles to the Republican agenda (including that of President George W. Bush) are the so-called leaders of the Senate Republican Caucus.
Their behavior was pathetic when they were in the minority. Unfortunately, not much has changed since they regained control.
The problem is that, at least since Bob Dole (and subsequently under Trent Lott and Bill Frist), the Republican Caucus in the Senate, the Republican National Committee and the executive branch under both Presidents Bush have become testosterone-free zones.
Democrats conduct politics as if they are waging war; Republicans treat politics like it is another tennis match at the local country club. Democrats lie, cheat, steal and demagogue issues; Republicans roll over and wet on themselves.

Based on Insight's article about the incriminating memos exchanged among Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats, I have e-mailed the following letter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and plan to send the same to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah):
If these facts are accurate, some highly placed people in my Republican Party need to undergo an ethics check. Not only has the wrong man been fired (Mr. Manuel Miranda), but more importantly, some highly unethical people in the Democratic Party are getting away with murder.
This is literally true in cases where the abortion providers are preventing the appointment of federal judges who may be sympathetic to pro-life arguments.
As President George W. Bush has demonstrated, leadership against evil takes courage. It means willingness to face possible adversity to do what's right. I hope that applies to you.
The next time I receive a mailing asking for a political contribution for Republican senators, I am going to write the name "Manuel Miranda" across the top and send it back!

Liberal Media Obscures Truth With Insinuations and Bias
Thank you for the commentary concerning the "testimony" of Condoleezza Rice [letter from the editor, April 13-26]. I feel as if the majority of the media in the United States has gone mad. How can they be slanting the news to the point where I don't even recognize the original report, and all just to make the Democrats look good?
I have heard stories reported as they were unfolding only to find them completely twisted on major news Websites later on in an effort to get the public to believe that these events happened differently than we first witnessed. It is as if the media are saying: "Who do you believe, us or your lying eyes?"
This great country of ours is being defined for us by the mainstream media, and they are going to bring our nation down. How have we allowed the press to become propaganda machines in this day and age? I don't know where or when this biased reporting will end, but I do believe articles such as the one written by Paul M. Rodriguez need to go out 20 times a day.
We need people to get the facts out, expose the mainstream media for their bias and show the people how badly they've been had by the news they thought they could trust.
Thanks again to Paul M. Rodriguez and Insight for presenting the facts on this matter, and please continue to point out the lies as you see them.
I caught a snippet of a CNN program with Paula Zahn, Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson. They were discussing the fact that Condoleezza Rice had not testified in public under oath, and Zahn asked Carlson, "What are they [the Bush administration] hiding? …
