NAADAC Launches Education/research Foundation

The National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) has announced the formation of a new, not-for-profit, tax-exempt foundation to promote scholarships and learning.

According to NAADAC President Larry G. Osmonson, NCAC II, CAP, CTRT, "We now have the opportunity to advance the profession through education and research projects funded by outside sources not always available to the Association."

Unlike NAADAC, the new Education and Research Foundation will be able to solicit and receive taxdeductible contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals. Since no member dues will go to support the foundation, private funding, along with government grants, will be critical to its functioning.

In addition to education and research, the foundation will be involved with activities which heighten understanding of addiction as a preventable and treatable disease, and sponsor programs which bring greater recognition to addiction counselors. This year, the foundation will provide educational scholarshipsis to qualifying counselors, conduct a counselor salary survey, develop a speakers bureau and coordinate the "Treatment Works!" public awareness campaign. …
