InteLex Corporation has published the PAST MASTERS series--full-text humanities databases--on custom-created CD-ROMs for IBM PC and Macintosh computers. The company used CD-Recordable media as a vehicle for full-text publishing. InteLex offers any combination in the series merged into one database on a custom CD-ROM.
InteLex has concentrated on assembling and creating scholarly electronic editions of texts in Western philosophy, religion, and political theory, suitable for both research and classroom use. All texts are unabridged. Included in the Past Masters series are modern translations and classic texts from prestigious university presses including Princeton, Harvard, Cambridge, Notre Dame, and California.
Databases now available include The Collected Dialogs of Plato; The Complete Works of Aristotle; The Collected Works of St. Thomas Aquinas; British Philosophy 1600-1900 (a collection that contains the databases Locke-Berkeley-Hume; The Utilitarians; Economics: Smith to Mill; and The English Works of Hobbes); The Continental Rationalists; Political Philosophy: Machiavelli to Mill; Kierkegaard: Samlede Vaerker; The Collected Papers of Charles Sanders Peirce; and The Published Works of Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Folio VIEWS search and retrieval software is provided with every database. VIEWS allows the user to locate every occurrence of a word or words, phrases, or words within a certain proximity of each other.
Typical search times for simple word and Boolean searches are less than five seconds. Hypertext links permit easy access to particular databases or texts, to footnotes and variant readings, and are used to link passages in original language to their translation. All paragraphs contain author, work, and chapter information, as well as page numbers from standard editions.
Phrase and proximity searches are possible using the supplied software, Folio VIEWS. …
