SilverPlatter Information, Inc. has announced a number of new additions to its product lines.

Ulrich's and LISA

Among the new offerings are two new databases: Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory and Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA).

Ulrich's is a periodicals database and a standard bibliographic and reference tool that is used in libraries across the nation. It contains information on more than 233,000 magazines, newspapers, scholarly journals, annuals, irregulars, and serials from over 80,000 publishers in 200 countries. The database now notes not only which periodicals are available in print, on CD-ROM, or online, but also which are available via document delivery services like Uncover, UMI, ADONIS, CISTI, KNAW, and others.

It also includes thousands of e-mail addresses for both publishers and individual journals, as well as URLs to help researchers find resources on the Internet.

LISA is a reference tool for current awareness in information science that allows access to past, present, and ongoing developments in librarianship, information science, online retrieval, new information technologies, and publishing. LISA identifies and describes articles dealing with online information retrieval, optical discs and CD-ROMs, electronic publishing, A&I services, microforms, bookselling and publishing, bibliography, archives, and copyright. In addition to the LISA database, the CD also includes the Current Research in Library and Information Science (CRLIS) database, which covers research projects in the library and information science field.

These two databases are part of a licensing agreement under which SilverPlatter is also offering Books In Print, Books in Print with Book Reviews, Marquis Who's Who, American Library Directory, and American Men and Women of Science.

A Matter of Fact

SilverPlatter and Pierian Press have announced the addition of URLs to the A Matter of Fact database. These URLs facilitate direct links to the full-text articles referenced in the database.

The A Matter of Fact database contains original quotes from speeches and written works that contain statistics on current social, economic, political, health, environmental, and public policy issues. Now with the inclusion of URLs, searchers have Internet access to full-text articles stored at the Web sites of the Congressional Record, Debates of the Canadian House of Commons, Hansards of the Australian House of Representatives and Senate, US News and World Report, and Christian Science Monitor, as well as other sites. Searchers can identify records with URLs by adding the words "Web links" to their keyword searches.

The A Matter of Fact database is available through SilverPlatter's Internet service and will soon be released as part of SilverPlatter's new Search by Search, pay-as-you-go service.

New Gale Databases

Three new Gale databases have been added to Silverplatter's collection of electronic reference material: Gale's Contemporary Authors, Gale's Research Centers Directory, and Gale's CD-ROMs in Print.

Gale's Contemporary Authors covers the equivalent of more than 100 print volumes of Contemporary Authors. The database provides biographical information on approximately 100,000 modern novelists, poets, playwrights, nonfiction writers, journalists, and scriptwriters. …
