HAWAII

Saundra Keyes, managing editor of the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek, Calif., has been named editor of The Honolulu Advertiser, effective Dec. 1. She will succeed Jim Gatti, editor since 1995, who is retiring. Keyes joins the Gannett Co. Inc. daily after holding executive positions at several Knight Ridder papers besides the Times, including stints as managing editor of The Miami Herald, executive editor of the Long Beach, Calif. Press-Telegram (now owned by MediaNews Group Inc.), and managing editor of the Philadelphia Daily News.

FLORIDA

Robert W. Burdick to executive vice president and general manager of the Naples Daily News from president and general manager of the Denver Rocky Mountain News. Both papers are owned by the E.W. Scripps Co.

OHIO

Jim Krumel to editor of The Lima News from managing editor. Krumel succeeds Ray Sullivan, now senior publisher of Freedom Newspapers of New Mexico, parent of the Clovis News Journal and the Portales News- Tribune.

CALIFORNIA

Joseph Tripp to the newly created position of new-media sales and marketing director for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which includes the Los Angeles Daily News, from vice president of sales and business development at Interactive Media Partners, a new-media training and consulting firm in Fountain Valley. Tripp will also serve as chief operating officer at Interactive Media.

Dana Arvig to advertising director of The Californian in Salinas from retail advertising manager. Arvig succeeds James Lipson.

Liz Spayd to assistant managing editor for national news at The Washington Post from national editor. …
