OCLC has announced that 18 years of the Facts On File World News Digest are now available on the OCLC FirstSearch service, and also that PsycINFO has been reloaded on the service to provide more value to users of the database.

Facts On File World News Digest

Updated weekly, the full-text Facts On File database covers all aspects of the news-U.S. and foreign politics, international affairs, the environment, science, medicine and health, economics and business, crime, education, social issues, accidents and disasters, art and popular culture, sports, and deaths. Facts On File editors use more than 100 of the world's top news sources to create original, concise, authoritative stories written specifically for reference, according to the OCLC announcement.

The 70,000-record database contains the complete full text of Facts On File since 1980. Hypertext linking allows developments to be traced back in time through "see also" references.

"It has been our goal for a long time to have Facts On File available on FirstSearch because so many of our customers prefer FirstSearch for database access," said Thomas E. Hitchings, publisher, Facts On File News Services. "Half a dozen state consortia have already expressed interest in this delivery."

The Facts On File World News Digest is published by New York-based Facts On File News Services, which also publishes Issues and Controversies On File, Editorials On File, Software & CD-ROM Reviews On File, and Today's Science On File.
