Small Libraries Get Books

Eight hundred and two small libraries across the country have received fifty recently published volumes of The Library of America series as part of a partnership program between the American Library Association, The Library of America, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Carnegie Corporation of New York contributed $1 million to NEH to help develop and administer the program.

"This is a great asset to any library," says Kim Polk, assistant director for technical services for thirteen branches of public libraries in Mississippi. Three of the thirteen will be receiving books. Information on the book project is available at http://www.ala.org.

A NEW ABBE MUSEUM

A grand opening will be held September 29 for the new downtown Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor, Maine. Designed in a renovated 1890s landmark building that formerly housed the YMCA, the new museum will be open year-round. …
