Profound for the Internet

Profound, Inc.'s Profound for the Internet online business information service applies the company's InfoSort search engine technology to its comprehensive database of business information. Optimized for the Netscape Navigator 2.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers, the new service is targeted to businesses using the Internet for conducting research, competitive analysis, sales and marketing projections, and strategic planning, as well as making investment decisions and monitoring market developments.

According to Profound, the service features news from over 4,000 newspapers, periodicals, and wires from organizations like Reuters and Associated Press; over 40,000 full-text research reports from publishers like Frost & Sullivan and FIND/SVP; and financial reports and research on millions of companies from Dun & Brad -- Standard & Poor's, Paine Webber, Lehman Brothers, and others. In addition, thousands of industry and company briefings can be accessed along with current prices on stocks and commodities.

To pinpoint information online, Profound's InfoSort search engine scans millions of documents across relevant information providers on Profound's databases by standardizing hundreds of thousands of search terms the company has amassed and refined over the past 10 years.

"Providing structured business information on the Internet will accelerate the use of quality research, making it a common strategic tool for business," said Dan Wagner, chief executive of Profound. "By applying information science to business content using InfoSort technology, we've created a new paradigm for the way Internet sites could become far more useful business tools."

When an information source is identified using InfoSort, Profound provides a detailed table of contents for each report that shows the precise location of the exact information sought. This allows users to jump to specific report sections.

Profound delivers a wide scope of information in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF), allowing research reports and documents to be viewed, sorted, and printed as replicas of their published originals, including all graphics, illustrations, and color.

Custom Alert provides automatic searching of specific news, company, financial and broker information, market research, and other information of interest to the user. When predetermined search criteria are met, Profound automatically alerts the user via e-mail that requested information has been identified. This provides a means for keeping up-to-date on developments by clients and competitors while identifying market trends and business and investment opportunities. …
