Ponte Vedra Firm Processing Applicants for Wynn Casino; Vegas Hotel Project Recruitmax's Largest Software Venture

In just over a month, the most expensive casino in the world will open in Las Vegas -- and the 10,000 people who work there will all have a First Coast connection.

All of the employees at the $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas -- from janitors to poker dealers to executives -- as well as the 90,000 applicants who were rejected, will have passed through software created by Recruitmax, a Ponte Vedra Beach-based company that assists companies with hiring, retaining and managing their employees through Web-based applications.

The Wynn project has been Recruitmax's largest venture in such a tight time frame, with the company having about four months to process all the applicants. "They've used technology in the past, but never at this volume and never in such a short period of time," said Kevin Marasco, director of marketing for Recruitmax.

The other Wynn casinos have used in-house computer programs to process applicants, said Arte Nathan, chief human resources officer for the casino, requiring potential employees to stop by in person. The Recruitmax software eliminated that, as well as making it easier to schedule appointments and track applicants.

Computer-assisted hiring has typically been used for upper-level positions, focusing on the 30 percent of jobs held by professionals, said Katherine Jones, research director in human capital management at research firm Aberdeen Group. "The rest dealt with paper applications, where there's a lot of inefficiencies," Jones said. …
