Doctor's New Wave Surgery; GP Sets Up a Beach and Sun Loungers in His Waiting Room

THERE'S nothing more depressing than waiting to see the doctor surrounded by lingering germs and a chorus of coughs and sneezes.

So a GP in south London has come up with a way to beat the waiting-room blues by turning his into a beach - with palm trees, sun loungers and idyllic white sand.

Dr Alex Bobak, who runs The Medical Centre in Wandsworth, has teamed up with Virgin Holidays, which transformed a scene from one of its brochures inside his surgery - complete with the sounds of the sea played over a stereo. The soothing warmth of a tropical sun is also created using special lamps, which are used to treat sufferers of Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Dr Bobak said many people coming to see him would benefit from a wait on the "beach", adding: "It has often been said that a holiday is the best prescription for beating the sorts of complaints and illnesses brought on by this time of year.

People normally say they feel healthier, happier and generally better after a holiday in the sun. …
