WATER, SEWER RATES INCREASED

Nassau County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to increase water and sewer rates for customers of the county-owned Nassau-Amelia Utilities by 14 percent.

The increase takes effect May 1.

The county purchased the utility, which serves 3,000 on Amelia Island, in 2003.

FERNANDINA BLOOD DRIVES

The Florida Georgia Blood Alliance's 2006 Fernandina Beach Community Blood Drives will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, June 10, Aug. 12, Oct. 14 and Dec. 9.

Bloodmobiles will be at Kmart and Winn-Dixie.

Blood donations will be used by Baptist Medical Center Nassau and other hospitals.

QUARTERBACK CLUB

The Fernandina Beach Quarterback Club will have a car wash, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Yulee.

A mandatory meeting for all student athletes and parents for the upcoming 2006 Fernandina Beach High School football season will be at 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the Quarterback Club pavilion at the school.

Coach Ed Brown will discuss team rules and upcoming events.

The Quarterback Club will host a cookout afterward and discuss the purpose and objectives of the booster club.

CONFEDERATE MEETING

The Nassau County Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp and Order of the Confederate Rose will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at The Pig BBQ in Callahan.

Genealogist Ken Sturges Jr. will discuss Confederate soldiers and sailors buried in Nassau County.

The camp is looking for drummers, fifers and buglers for its color guard. Assistance with uniform procurement is available. Musicians are eligible for the Cadet Officer program.

TEEN COURT

Nassau County Teen Court will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Yulee Judicial Annex, 76347 Veterans Way.

Nassau County middle- and high-school students ages 11 to 18 who want to volunteer as jury members, attorneys, court clerks and bailiffs can sign up at their school guidance office or at Teen Court. Volunteers need to arrive at 5:30 p.m. Students earn two hours of community-service credit.

GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

The Amelia Island Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Room of the Fernandina Beach Police Department, 1525 Lime St.

Web designer Christopher Bobst will speak on "Creating a Family Web Site." Bobst will demonstrate how to create a simple Web page for sharing pictures and information with family or for publishing family history.

FINANCIAL SEMINAR

Shelly Anderson of the Anderson Group and Borden Hallowes and Richard Young of Amelia Financial Consultants will present "Make Your Money Last" at 2 and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Golf Club of Amelia.

The 21st annual Nassau County Volunteer Center Volunteer Recognition Luncheon will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center in Fernandina Beach.

Reservations required. Table for eight is $150, table for four $85, single small-business ticket is $35 and single general-admission ticket is $15.
