DAVID, DAVID... it's really a bloke. The former England captain enjoyeda slow dance with the First Lady of Australia, Dame Edna Everage, aka comedianBarry Humphries.

The unlikely pairing formed just two of the eight luminary guests on the finalchat show of Michael Parkinson's 26-year career as a TV interviewer.

Parkinson handpicked the line-up for the two-hour special which also includedsome of his most famous and enduring guestsSir Michael Caine, Sir David Attenborough, Dame Judi Dench, Billy Connolly,Peter Kay and Jamie Cullum.

The programme, recorded last night and to be screened next month, includedBeckham expressing his dismay at England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008. Hereceived a standing ovation in recognition of hisefforts in at least trying to save England from defeat.

Parkinson, 72, shed a tear at the end of a show that has spanned two channelsBBC1 and ITV1 and more than 600 programmes.

"It's been a great joy and I shall miss it," he declared, adding of his guests:"We're all going to get pissed. …
