Man Was Attacked with a Machete; Victim Left with Head and Arm Injuries by Gang

A MAN suffered serious injuries when he was attacked with a machete in his home.

It is believed the victim knew his attackers.

Police were called to Cartmel Green, Slatyford, Newcastle, at around 2.30am yesterday.

It is understood three men burst in to the victim's flat while he was alone.

The 25-year-old man, who isn't being named by police, suffered head and arm injuries as he tried to defend himself.

He needed treatment for the wounds, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

Three men were arrested. One was released and two remain in custody today.

Acting Det Insp Tony Gallagher, of Newcastle command area, said: "Arrests have been made in connection with an aggravated burglary.

"Our inquiries are continuing, and we will be talking to the victim. This doesn't appear to be a random attack."

Police found two axes and a machete in the flat. The weapons have been taken for forensic examination.

The men arrested are aged 18, 32, and 34.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "The man was alone in his flat when three people he knows barged their way in and assaulted him with weapons.

"He is still in Newcastle General hospital and was due to get an x-ray this morning. …
