There were no Northeast Florida surprises Friday as qualifying ended for courthouse and federal races.

With no new candidates entering the race for state attorney, Democrats and independents in Duval, Clay and Nassau counties will be allowed to vote in the Aug. 26 Republican primary between Angela Corey and Jay Plotkin.

Voters in St. Johns, Putnam, Flagler and Volusia counties face a similar situation. There, Republican R.J. Larizza is challenging State Attorney John Tanner, also a Republican.

In Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, voters also will decide two judicial races to replace retiring judges and the circuit's first-ever election for public defender, a position that has been uncontested since it became an elected office in 1968.
