Eston Residents' Association started its mission to brighten up the town in 2004 by purchasing a few flower tubs.

Five years on, the town is in full bloom thanks to a hard-working team of volunteers who organise everything from fundraising events to a rota for watering the plants.

Tubs and floral displays can be found in and out of the town centre and there are many heritage features telling the town's ironstone story.

Last year Eston scooped the title of Best Urban Community in the Northumbria in Bloom awards which has given the town a ticket to this year's Britain in Bloom final.

Ann Higgins, chairman of Eston Residents' Association, said it is like going from the Premiership to the Super League.
