The month of June is full of activity. It is officially called the 'Transport Month' however there are many other activities taking place during the month. With the very wet weather we have experienced, some of the events may have been cancelled or postponed to another day - please check.
From June 1-5, the Grafton Veterans Winter Golf Festival is to take place at the Grafton District Golf Club. Also from June 6-8, the second round of Hockey NSW Women's State League and Women's Open State Championship is scheduled to be held at the Grafton Hockey Fields, Fisher Park. Another 'sporting event' to be held on June 6-7 is the NSW Masters Swimming Point Score Carnival Round 9 at Yamba as well as the Clarence River Masters Swim Club - Convent to Main Beach Swim (1.2 km) on June 7. While on sporting events, the NSW State Hillclimb Championships will be held on Sunday, June 7 at the Grafton Sporting Car Club's Mountainview Hillclimb course. This course is one of the most challenging hillclimbs in NSW providing good viewing areas for spectators. The 984 hillclimb has attracted a capacity field of 70 cars and cars of all types - sports cars, sports sedans, historic cars, standard family sedans as well as the fastest hillclimb specials. It will be an exciting day. Full canteen services are available.
The Grafton Car Show which was to be held on Sunday, June 14 at the Grafton Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre has been postponed. The new date is Sunday, July 17.
This coming week does have some important cultural events. The Clarence Valley Conservatorium in Villiers Street, Grafton, is holding Conducting and Vocal Workshops.
The Conducting Workshop will be held on Friday, June 5 from 5-7pm. Dr Philip Matthias, Senior Lecturer and Co-ordinator of Academic Studies and Director of Church Music studies at the Conservatorium, University of Newcastle as well as Conductor of the University of Newcastle Chamber Choir will be the Lecturer. The cost is $25.
The Vocal Workshop will be held on Friday, June 5 as well as Saturday, June 6. The tutor is Bernadette Lannen who is a professional singer who works in classical, Celtic, sacred and popular genres. She teaches singing at the University of Newcastle and is a past winner of the Doris Smith Scholarship. …
