CONGRATULATIONS to all the players who competed in the grand finals on Saturday.

It was a fabulous day despite the dust and wind.

Well done to all the winners and commiserations to the runners-up - you did well to make the grand final of 2009.

Congratulations Lorna Felton on being granted life membership of Grafton Women's Hockey Association plus all the award-winners on the day.

Lorna's award is a fitting tribute to a lady who has played and coached hockey for so many years.

Next week Shirley Hillier (over 60s) and Taine Mason (over 40s) will represent NSW in the Australian Veteran's Championships in Hobart.

Closer to home, in Coffs Harbour, will be the Australian under 13 Invitational Championships from October 5 to 10.

Pop down and watch the Grafton kids playing - Ashlee Danvers in the girls and Nathan Butterick, Chris Jurd, Jacob Purser and James Kinnear (shadow) for the boys.

The Grafton Public School PSSA team played in Lithgow on Monday for the state titles.

The boys had trouble adapting to the freezing conditions (4 degrees when they arrived on Sunday) and were beaten on the day by Erina Heights and Wollondilly (Goulburn).

However they did not ever give up scoring late in the second halves of both games.

Their teacher and parents were very proud of their efforts and they are to be congratulated on great sportsmanship both on and off the field.

Well done, boys.

Back to the grand finals - thanks to everyone who contributed to a fabulous event: to the players for a great day of entertainment, the umpires for their work during the year, to the special guests who presented awards, the women in the canteen and men on barbeque duties and the spectators for attending.

Thank you to all the hard working members of committees behind the scenes that ensured a wonderful 2009 and thanks to Yvonne Cameron for organising the presentations, Marg Frances for organising the canteen and the Men's Assoc for controlling the bar.

Lastly a huge thanks to our President, Cheryl Kinnane, for her countless hours of work which ensures success for the Grafton Women's Hockey Association. …
