FLORIDA TRAILS; Offering a Better View

Anybody who wants to plan a trip to Walt Disney World, Busch Gardens or SeaWorld won't have much trouble figuring it out.

But learning about Florida's more enticing trails and outdoor scenery has often been difficult - but that's changing.

Visit Florida recently unveiled a new "trails-tourism" website that could do a lot for connecting people with some of the state's best outdoor treasures and natural trails.

People who want to see something authentic who have never heard of Florida Caverns State Park, the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail or Lake Louisa can obtain maps that show where those attractions are, what they offer, business hours and any costs.

Site visitors can also fashion their own trip using a trip planner plus get a ground-level take on various attractions from Kevin Mims, an outdoorsman who shoots video, takes pictures, writes articles and blogs about his experiences.

Mims is on Twitter and Facebook and answers questions about Florida's great outdoors from her followers.

Visit Florida, the state's tourism agency, created the site in partnership with experts at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Greenways and trails and the East Coast Greenway Alliance. …
