Alan Porter has a long background in banking, joining Westpac in 1974 and staying for 22 years. He ran a mortgage broking business in Caloundra for 10 years before becoming a BOQ owner-manager in 2006.

He will step back from his BOQ duties, with support from business partner Mark Wiggins and a staff of eight, to concentrate on the chamber role.

HOLD onto your hats, Caloundra businesses, there's a new chamber president in town.

Alan Porter was voted into the role less than a month ago and he has some ambitious plans to take the organisation to the next level.

C[pounds sterling]If I can sit back and say I doubled membership at the end of 12 months, that would be a good indicator of success,C[yen] Mr Porter said of the chamber, which currently has around 280 members.

C[pounds sterling]I would also like to improve communication between businesses and the chamber and between businesses themselves.

C[pounds sterling]We really want to have members know who the other members are. The chamber does a lot of really good work in the community, but the community is not aware of it.

C[pounds sterling]The first thing is to communicate that and explain what's in it for members.
