TALENT ON SHOW; Summerland College Students Prepare for State Touch Football Championships

WHEN it comes to combining brains and brawn on the sporting turf, Josh Gollan cannot be faulted.

The 17-year-old is among five Summerland Christian College students preparing to contest the New South Wales Christian Schools Touch Football Championships.

Year 12 student Josh had no real experience of the 13-man game when he decided to give it a go about five years ago.

"I wasn't the fittest person around when I started," he said.

"I liked how the matches were short and quick.

"There is a bit of strategy involved, which I like.

"The more strategy you employ, the easier it gets.

"It's not as competitive as other sports.

"No one gets hurt out there."

Some of the most promising young touch players from across the state will feature in the forthcoming Coffs Harbour tournament.

Josh, with fellow Summerland students Caleb Kirchen, Toby Flipo, Shawn Sivewright and Liam Kelly, earned their berths after impressing at last week's zone competition in Goonellabah.

They will represent North Coast at the event, which starts later this month.

Josh, of Lismore, has featured in the event before and said he was hopeful of another strong performance from his squad.
