After many years in the corporate world, Carla Covey and her husband were ready for a change. The couple decided to pursue their dream of business ownership. After a year of searching and another year finalizing the transaction, the Coveys became the owners of Automated Mail Service, a full-service direct-mail and presort company.
"The purchase was a very scary venture for a conservative individual," Covey said. "It has been a wonderful roller coaster ride. Business ownership is truly a joy."
Since buying the company in 2009, she has added several key accounts and has upgraded equipment throughout the facility with state-of-the-art digital print equipment, presort software for intelligent mail bar coding and high-speed inserting equipment. She manages 75 employees and oversees operations of a 40,000-square- foot manufacturing facility.
"In the future, we would like to expand AMS to include other locations. This may be by organic growth or acquisition," Covey said.

She is a good mentor and regularly mentors recent graduates in the areas of finance and accounting," said Grayson McKee of Tulsa, a longtime friend and mentee of Covey's. "She is also a very compassionate person and regularly donates her business's printing and mailing services to various charities."
