Oklahoma's Most-Admired CEOs Profile: Fred S. Morgan, the State Chamber of Oklahoma

Article excerpt

Fred S. Morgan was named president and CEO of The State Chamber of Oklahoma in February 2010. Since that time, he has led efforts to refocus the chamber's mission of serving as the state and national legislative voice for the Oklahoma business community.

Like most companies, recent economic times forced re-evaluation of The State Chamber's budget.

"(Morgan) has initiated a top-to-bottom audit of the organization, streamlining costs where appropriate and making sure the suitable people are in the right positions to ensure success not only in the short-term, but designing a plan for lasting accomplishment," said Bill W. Burgess Jr., chairman of The State Chamber.

"Not just any leader would have had the foresight or ability to transform an organization for the better in such a short period of time. Fred Morgan is the exact right fit for the chamber at this point in time in the organization's history. Without his leadership, I am confident the chamber would not be on its current path of success," Burgess said.

Morgan brings to the position experience as general counsel and senior policy adviser for the Oklahoma Senate and as a veteran Oklahoma state representative. His previous efforts in the legislative arena earned him much recognition, including The State Chamber's Champion of Lawsuit Reform in 2009, American Academy of Ophthalmology's 2005 National Legislator of the Year, American Legislative Exchange Council's National Chairman's Award in 2002 and Oklahoma Farm Bureau's Meritorious Service Award in 2001. …
