Arbitration Forum Names Dawson Chief Executive

Jack Dawson has been named chief executive officer of The Arbitration Forum.

Dawson is a shareholder and managing director of Miller Dollarhide. He is past president of the Oklahoma County Bar Association, past president of the Federal Bar Association and a past member of the board of governors of the Oklahoma Bar Association.

OBA

Harry A. Woods Jr. has been appointed to serve on the Professional Responsibility Tribunal of the Oklahoma Bar Association by Douglas W. Sanders Jr., OBA president. Woods is a partner, shareholder, director and chairman of the Ethics Committee at Crowe & Dunlevy. The tribunal was created in 1981 by the Oklahoma Supreme Court and consists of 14 lawyers and seven non-lawyers. It is responsible for conducting hearings on formal complaints filed against lawyers and on applications for reinstatement to practice law in Oklahoma.

Grants received

Two Oklahoma law enforcement agencies will receive a share of $66 million that will go to 65 communities to hire 882 community policing officers, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

The grants are part of the department's Community Oriented Policing Services, an initiative to add 100,000 community policing officers to the beat and advance community policing nationwide.

Oklahoma was awarded a total of $637,500.

The grants were awarded under the COPS Universal Hiring Program. UHP grants provide funding for 75 percent of the total salary and benefits of each officer hired for three years, up to a maximum of $75,000 per officer. The remainder is paid with state or local funds.

Grants to Oklahoma law enforcement agencies include $450,000 for six full-time positions in Broken Arrow and $187,500 for two full- time positions and one part-time slot with the Muskogee County Sheriff's Department.
